  • The 2007 NPC Jr Nationals, promoted by Pam Betz in the windy city of Chicago, was confronted by a force of nature known only as Michael Lockett. Lockett literally blew through the Hyatt Regency Convention Center and took home the super heavyweight and overall titles in such convincing fashion that the spectators were left with their jaws wide open.

    BANTAMWEIGHTS:

Wayne Hugar took home first place honors in this class with a combination of great shape, symmetry, and conditioning. He was followed by Christopher San Juan in 2nd.

    LIGHTWEIGHTS:

In a hotly contested class, Jeff Olcsvary swept the class with nearly unanamous first place votes. His classic good looks combined with outstanding structure and muscle size made him the obvious winner. Rafael Gonzalez and Michael Manibog followed in 2nd and 3rd respectively in what proved to be a hotly contested lightweight battle.

    WELTERWEIGHTS:

Victor Prisk, orthopedic surgeon by day/bodybuilder by night, narrowly won this intensely competive class. His well-balanced physique combined with incredibly ripped muscle—even his glutes—made Victor a crowd as well as judge favorite. John Dewey finished in 2nd and Todd Bancroft followed up in 3rd.

    MIDDLEWEIGHT:

Roger Ferrer took home 1st place in the most controversial decision of the night. While possessing better size and shape than 2nd place finisher, John Durante, and 3rd placer Gary Fuentes, his conditioning paled in comparison to Fuentes and his leg mass fell way short of Durante. In fact, Fuentes (who actually tied Durante) garnered the same five 1st place votes that Ferrer did. Sounds like the judges were split on who to choose. Either way, the class was surely an exciting one!

    LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT:

A new star was created tonight in the likes of Maryland native Brandon Rey. Trained by veteran IFBB Pro Don Long, Rey possessed a Phil Heath-like physique that easily swept the extremely competive light heavyweight class. Rey, who works as a producer for CNN News, became the perenial darkhorse in this fairly well-established field of competitors. Despite Rey’s structural superiority, Eric Blancaflor still managed to snag a few first place votes and turn many a head in the packed Hyatt Regency O’Hare hotel ballroom. A massive and ripped Victor Dean finished in 3rd, while a freaky ripped Armon Adibi took home a controversial 4th. MD CYBER CLASSIC finalist Herb Nordheimer rounded out the top 5 with a 5th place finish.

    HEAVYWEIGHT:

Chad La Count stole the heavyweight class with unanimous 1st place votes. His hard dense, striated, muscle made him the hand-down crowd favorite. If Chad can add another 5-7lbs of well-placed muscle to his physique, he’ll be tough to beat on any stage. Long Island native Sean Harris secured 2nd place with beautiful symmetry, a professional presentation, and great conditioning. If Harris had sported striated glutes, the outcome might have been a whole different story. Vladimir Sizov had more than enough size and conditioning to stand with both La Count and Harris; however, his unwise decision to paint himself with Dream Tan may have cost him a higher placing. Last year’s NPC Jr USA Champ, Chad Ray Martin finished in 4th while 2005 NPC Teen National Champ Gerald Williams secured his first men’s open national placing in 5th.

    SUPER HEAVYWEIGHT:

This class was dominated from start to finish by 2006 Team Universe Champion Michael Lockett. Lockett, who claims to be a natural competitor and who’s passed numerous drug tests in the past, simply outsized and outconditioned the rest of the field. This guy gained 25 solid pounds of mass over the last 10 months and there seems to be no end in sight. Lockett’s godly-inspired muscle was just too much for 2nd place finisher Eric Posejpal and 3rd placer Drew Jemmott.

    OVERALL:

Lockett was an easy “lock” for the overall right from the start of the Overall Posing Round. No other weightclass winner could match the size and freaky muscle separation that Lockett possesses in excess. According to NPC President Jim Manion, “if Lockett can bring up his lagging back and work on his posing, he’ll be a very dangerous competitor in the future”.
